Week 1 — In Class March 9; Online March 10 to 15

What Is Sociology?
Chapter 1 Section 1.1

Online Week 1: Share and discuss a current news article or video that is using a sociological perspective. Post this article by March 13 and explain how it is demonstrating a sociological perspective. Comment on at least 3 other students’ posts by March 15.

Week 2/3 — Online March 19-24

What Is Sociology and the Sociological Imagination? What are Sociological Theory/History and Methods?

4. You want to participate in an Online  Forum 2–Looking at your home/community with Sociological Imagination.  Post a picture from your home/community along with a short (paragraph) explanation of how you are evaluating it with a sociological imagination by March 24

Culture

Chapter 3

2. You want to take Quiz 3 (online in Blackboard). Take the quiz anytime between 12noon Wednesday (March 25)  to 5pm (Monday March 30).  Remember it is a timed quiz (and you will have 15  minutes)

3. You want to write a journal in the Blackboard Journal to me by Tuesday (March 31) at 5pm

4. You want to participate in Online Forum 3: Using the article, Nacirema as a model you are to explore a ritual within your own culture but from an outsider’s view – as if you were witnessing the practice for the first time and trying to understand it. You need to post a detailed description of the ritual and tell us what it is by March 31

You want to participate in Online  Forum 5— For this week– you are collecting data and writing your concept paper.  In the forum you are to post a description about the data you are collecting for the concept paper.  Be sure to describe an interesting findings thus far!  Post this by Sunday May 17th

Week 11– Online May 20-26

Social Movements and Social Change

Make Up Week for Transition to Online June 2-June 8

You must attend a small group discussion online with me and your classmates.  This will be in part a review of the class and in part a study session for the final exam.  You will sign up for a session online and then attend on Blackboard Collaborate.
